Anthony Giovinazzo
Anthony J. Giovinazzo, M.B.A.; C.Dir.; has 31 years of experience in international investment and operating management, with an emphasis in strategy, mergers and acquisitions, financial management and business development. His industry experience includes, biotechnology, investment banking, mining and manufacturing . Anthony’s value added, would include, building board effectiveness, governance reform and implementation, audit committee membership, strategic planning and problem solving, and raising capital from public and private sources. He is a polished international executive, a true independent director, and an out of the box thinker. He qualifies as a financial expert according to SEC audit committee requirements.
He currently is the CEO of Cervelo Pharmaceuticals Inc. a clinical stage company. He most recently was the Chief Executive Officer of Cita NeuroPharmaceuticals Ltd, which in December 2005 was sold to a UK public company, for an above market return to the investors. He was a Director of the Toronto Biotechnology Initiative, and Co Chair of the Golden Horseshoe BioInnovation Consortium. From late 1994 to 1997 he was President of the Neuroscience Partners fund and a Vice President and Partner at MDS Capital Corp. For 15 years prior to joining MDS Capital Corp., he focused on international corporate tax, merchant banking and venture capital investing in Europe and the US.
Mr Giovinazzo is a Chartered Director (C. Dir.). He is a founding faculty member of the MacMaster University Not For Profit Governance Institute. He completed the Leadership and Strategy in Pharmaceuticals and Biotech, program, of the Harvard Business School, June 2006. Is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors of Canada, and an Overseas member of the Institute of Directors of England. He is also a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors, of the United States.
In 2007 he was appointed a member of the expert panel advising the National Reserarch Council of Canada, on its Phase 4, Genomics funding program, for 3 years.
He holds an MBA from IMD, of the University of Geneva, Switzerland (1986); a Certificate of Studies in Canadian Law from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Canada (1984); and a BA (Economics) from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada (1978). He is fluent in Italian and conversant in business French. He has lived and worked in Western Europe and the United States.
