BioDiscovery Toronto: A one stop shop for innovation

BDT is an organization linking 10 of Toronto's internationally recognized biomedical research institutions. It provides both the people and the funding to drive early-stage pre-commercial projects and has been successful in raising and deploying funds from several sources ranging from government, industry partners and members to promote the development of the most promising advances coming from Toronto’s universities and hospitals.

Apply to win $200,000 in one of five categories: Best Young Innovator, Innovator of the Year, Lifetime Achievement in Innovation, Start-up Company with the Best Innovation and Company with the Best Innovation.

The deadline for Premier's Catalyst Awards nominations is 5:00 pm, Thursday, October 9, 2008.

Mississauga officially launch the Research Innovation Commercialization Centre
“On June 10th, Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion joined Emil Kolb, Peel Region Chair; and Bob Delaney, MPP Mississauga - Streetsville to officially launch the Research Innovation Commercialization Centre (R.I.C. Centre). R.I.C. Centre is the Region of Peel’s entry point for entrepreneurs into Ontario’s innovation network to provide services to the clients that need them -entrepreneurs, small firms, researchers, and investors.”

International Consortium on Anti Virals
Leading scientists, public health experts, industry representatives, and government officials converged on Trent University in Peterborough Ontario and the MaRS Discovery Complex in downtown Toronto for he 6th annual ICAV International Symposium. Sponsored by The Biotechnology Initiative the symposium was attended by over 100 scientists and experts involved in anti-viral research and development from over 13 countries.

Six of the world's top scientists win 2008 Gairdner Awards for medical research
-Awardees include three Canadians.
-70 Gairdner Awardees have gone on to win the Nobel Prize.
